A Brief History of Black Hawk
The 1859 gold discovery in Gregory Gulch brought miners to the area that became Black Hawk. Incorporated in 1864, the town developed into an important center for milling and processing the region's ore. Its industrial role distinguished it from nearby mining camps and established the foundation of its historic downtown.
