A Brief History of Boulder
Boulder's modern townsite took shape in February 1859 when prospectors organized the Boulder City Town Company during the Colorado gold rush. The settlement grew beside Boulder Creek, taking its name from the surrounding rocky landscape. Later civic and cultural developments, including the opening of the Colorado Chautauqua in 1898, broadened its identity beyond its mining-era origins.
