A Brief History of Breckenridge
Breckenridge began in 1859 after prospectors found gold in the Blue River Valley. Its early streets and buildings grew from a mining economy that experienced repeated booms and setbacks. Historic preservation keeps that nineteenth-century town visible, including buildings such as the cabin associated with naturalist Edwin Carter.
