A Brief History of Buena Vista
Buena Vista was laid out and incorporated in 1879 during a period of rapid growth in the upper Arkansas Valley. It became the Chaffee County seat, giving the new town a central civic role as well as a place in the region's mining-era development. Its early townsite reflects the ambitions of that nineteenth-century expansion.
