A Brief History of Central City
Central City grew rapidly after the 1859 gold discovery in Gregory Gulch drew thousands of prospectors into the mountains. Mining wealth also supported cultural ambitions, including the community's opera house. When mining declined, preservation and the opera house's revival in 1932 helped carry the town's history into a new era.
