A Brief History of Conejos
Conejos grew within the early Hispanic settlement of the San Luis Valley. Families first established Guadalupe beside the Conejos River in 1854; during the late 1850s, many moved across the river to higher ground at Conejos. Its story connects settlement, irrigation and community life that predate Colorado statehood.
