A Brief History of Crestone
Crestone was founded in 1880 during a gold-mining boom at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Its early camp developed into an incorporated community in 1901. Later spiritual and cultural institutions added a different chapter to the town's identity, alongside its mining-era buildings and San Luis Valley setting.
