A Brief History of Cuchara
Cuchara developed as a summer retreat, with several guest cabins in place by 1910. Its seasonal community grew around the mountain scenery and forests of the Cuchara Valley. This resort-era history gives the village a different origin from the mining and railroad towns found elsewhere in southern Colorado.
