A Brief History of Dacono
Dacono developed in the early twentieth century as a coal-mining community in what became the Carbon Valley. Settlers arrived to work the local mines, and the town incorporated in 1908. Its unusual name combines the opening syllables of Daisy, Cora and Nora, three women associated with founder Charles Baum. Together with nearby Frederick and Firestone, Dacono reflects the importance of coal to the settlement and working life of southern Weld County.
