A Brief History of Deckers
Deckers developed beside the South Platte River, where Stephen Decker opened a general store in the 1890s and later added a saloon. These early businesses served a river corridor that became closely associated with mountain recreation. Fishing has drawn visitors to this stretch of the South Platte for decades, linking the community’s identity to its water and canyon setting. Deckers remains a small unincorporated community rather than an incorporated town, with its history rooted in a local trading stop and the enduring appeal of the river.
