A Brief History of Dillon
Dillon began as a stage stop and trading post beside the Snake River and incorporated in 1883. Named for prospector Tom Dillon, the community moved twice by 1892 to remain close to railroad lines. Its next relocation came with the creation of Dillon Reservoir: in 1956, residents and business owners were told they would need to sell their properties and move. Some buildings survived by being relocated. The 1883 schoolhouse, preserved by the Summit Historical Society, offers a connection to the families who lived in the earlier town.
