A Brief History of Divide
Divide grew with the arrival of the Colorado Midland Railroad. As construction approached in 1887, boarding houses, restaurants and saloons appeared to serve railroad workers. A post office opened on July 26, 1889, giving the developing settlement another permanent institution. Rail connections helped tie the area to the Cripple Creek mining district, while the Midland Depot became a lasting reminder of that transportation history. Divide remains an unincorporated Teller County community, whose early growth reflects the importance of mountain travel and railroad commerce.
