Eagle, Colorado

An incorporated town and the county seat of Eagle County, at Brush Creek and the Eagle River.

A Brief History of Eagle

Eagle developed near the meeting of Brush Creek and the Eagle River as a service center for surrounding ranches, farms, and mining communities. Early residents raised cattle, hay, and potatoes. The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reached the settlement in 1887, strengthening its transportation links. After several early names, Eagle became the established name, and the town incorporated in 1905. A prolonged contest with Red Cliff over the county seat ended with Eagle’s victory in 1921. County offices initially occupied Woodman Hall; construction of a dedicated Art Deco courthouse began in 1932, giving the growing administrative center a lasting landmark.
