A Brief History of Eckert
Eckert began as a small subdivision with a school and post office in an orchard-growing part of Delta County. It developed separately from nearby Austin and Cory, without incorporating as its own town. Access to cleaner domestic water later tied the three communities together. Orchard City incorporated in 1912, and its pipeline was completed in 1916; Eckert property owners obtained connections by agreeing to join the town. Legal annexation work was completed in the 1980s. Eckert retains its distinct community name, while its stone First Presbyterian Church, built in stages from 1915 to 1921, preserves an unusual Colorado example of Craftsman church architecture.
