A Brief History of Edgewater
Edgewater grew beside Sloan’s Lake, taking its name from that waterside location. Fishing and ice cutting were early activities, while improved access along Sheridan Boulevard encouraged settlement. Manhattan Beach resort opened on the lake’s northwest shore in 1889, and a street railway connected Denver with the resort and nearby community the following year. Residents voted to incorporate in 1901; the city’s history records official state recognition in 1904. Early municipal improvements included boardwalks, piped water, street names, and utility lines. Later residential and commercial growth transformed the small lakeside settlement into a compact city within the Denver metropolitan area.
