A Brief History of Eldorado Springs
Eldorado Springs grew around a spring-fed resort at the mouth of Eldorado Canyon. The resort opened on July 4, 1905, as Moffat Lakes Resort, drawing visitors for swimming and other recreation. By 1906, it had become a well-known Colorado vacation destination. High-wire performer Ivy Baldwin began crossing the canyon in 1907, adding a memorable attraction to the resort era. Jack Fowler began bottling the spring water in 1942. In 1978, Colorado purchased more than 400 acres from the resort to establish Eldorado Canyon State Park, preserving the canyon beside the unincorporated Boulder County community.
