A Brief History of Falcon
Falcon grew as a railroad settlement on the plains northeast of Colorado Springs. It was platted in 1888 as the Chicago, Rock Island railroad built west from Limon toward Colorado Springs. The community served steam-era rail traffic and the surrounding ranching country. Passenger service through Falcon ended in 1966, and the Rock Island’s bankruptcy in 1980 marked another major change for the rail corridor. Housing development around the turn of the twenty-first century brought renewed growth to this unincorporated El Paso County community. Part of its railroad landscape survives in a new form: the Rock Island Regional Trail follows the former line between Falcon and Peyton.
