A Brief History of Fowler
Fowler’s early civic life took shape through small businesses, a school and a local newspaper. The town’s history records Grace Fenlason teaching seven pupils in 1887, in a small building southeast of the town center. By October 1893, three stores served the community. The Fowler Tribune first appeared on September 17, 1897; initially printed in Denver, it was being produced locally within a year. A cemetery opened that October and passed from its association to town ownership in 1920. These institutions helped establish the community bearing landowner Orson Squire Fowler’s name.
