A Brief History of Glendale
Glendale’s early identity grew from farms and dairies along Cherry Creek. The Glendale Grange used the name in 1896, and William Harold Baumert named his business Glendale Farm Dairy in 1902. Residents organized a town government in 1952 to preserve local independence as neighboring urban development expanded. The trustees held their first organizational meeting that May, and the first municipal budget followed in 1954. Residents approved a sales tax in 1967 and adopted home rule in 1972. These decisions marked the community’s transition from a dairy district into a self-governing city within metropolitan Denver.
