A Brief History of Grant
Grant’s history reflects the importance of transportation through Platte Canyon and over Kenosha Pass. The community had a post office by the late nineteenth century, documented in Park County’s photographic archives. Railroad work connected Grant with the steep climb toward South Park: in an archived oral history, railroad worker Andy Anderson recalled trains needing additional engines for the grade from Grant to Kenosha Pass. The settlement later became a road junction on Highway 285 at the southern end of Guanella Pass. Grant remains an unincorporated Park County community.
