A Brief History of Green Mountain Falls
Green Mountain Falls developed as a summer resort in the late 1880s, attracting visitors to its lake, waterfalls and wooded mountain setting. Its gazebo, built about 1888, was designed as a scenic attraction for travelers arriving by train and as a complement to a nearby resort hotel. Recreation included boating, dances, concerts and excursions to the falls. The hotel’s destruction by fire in 1908 prompted the creation of a local fire department. The surviving lakeside gazebo recalls the resort era that shaped the town’s early identity and built landscape.
