A Brief History of Greenwood Village
Greenwood Village grew from a landscape of dairies, farms, orchards and country homes south of Denver. As development approached in 1950, residents organized to protect local control and their rural surroundings. Disputes over a proposed drive-in theater, power lines and a reservoir helped motivate the incorporation effort led by Charles βRollieβ Enos. Residents voted that September to establish the town. Annexations during the 1960s expanded its tax base and ability to provide services, and Greenwood Village adopted a home rule charter in 1968. Its municipal history reflects the transition from agricultural countryside to a metropolitan community.
