A Brief History of Grover
Grover began as a ranch-country post office north of the present town, in an area known as Point of Rocks. Its name honors Dolly Grover Donovan, whose family homesteaded nearby. Railroad construction in 1887 transformed the settlement, and the townsite was platted in November 1888. Within a few years, a depot, hotels, a bank, stores and a lumberyard served the surrounding plains. In 1929, voters elected a female mayor and town board amid opposition to bootlegging and gambling. The surviving depot preserves a reminder of the transportation connections that helped Grover develop.
