A Brief History of Hasty
Hasty is an unincorporated Bent County community named for pioneer settler Lon Hasty. Its surrounding farms preserve a record of early twentieth-century homesteading on Colorado’s eastern plains. In 1910, Ida and Elmer Sniff and their five children settled on 160 acres near Hasty, building a farmhouse and farm structures with locally gathered stone. George Smith began homesteading nearby in 1914. History Colorado documents both families through its Centennial Farms and Ranches program. These individual farm histories help explain the agricultural roots of the community and the surrounding countryside.
