A Brief History of Kittredge
Kittredge developed from ranch land along Bear Creek into a mountain resort community during the 1920s. Denver investor Charles M. Kittredge purchased a 300-acre ranch property and organized the Kittredge Land Company; the townsite was platted in 1923. Charles and Anna Kittredge promoted the former cattle ranch as a trout-fishing resort as automobile travel brought more Denver residents into the foothills. The historic settlement occupied the narrow valley south of Bear Creek, while later residential development spread onto the ridge north of the creek. Today Kittredge remains an unincorporated Jefferson County community, with county government providing municipal-type services.
