A Brief History of Kremmling
Kremmling grew around a general store established by Rudolph, or “Kare,” Kremmling in the early 1880s. When Aaron and John Kinsey laid out a townsite on their ranch, the merchant moved his store there, and the settlement eventually took his name. Kremmling incorporated on May 14, 1904. The arrival of the Moffat railroad in the early twentieth century strengthened its role as a shipping center for Grand County. Ranching became a major part of the surrounding valley’s economy, linking local businesses and transportation facilities to livestock producers across Middle Park. The town’s beginnings reflect commerce and ranching more than a lasting mining boom.
