A Brief History of Lone Tree
Lone Tree grew from a residential subdivision that opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1982 into an incorporated Douglas County city. Residents sought local authority over planning and community services as development expanded. In November 1995, voters approved incorporation, 676 to 165. The first City Council meeting followed in June 1996, and Lone Tree became a home rule city in 1998. Voters approved annexation of the RidgeGate property in 2000. The opening of the Lone Tree Arts Center in 2011 added a civic and cultural institution to this young municipality.
