A Brief History of Morrison
George Morrison saw potential for a town on a bench above Bear Creek in the 1870s. A narrow gauge rail spur reached the settlement in 1874. Trains hauled stone from local quarries to Denver and brought visitors to Morrison and nearby Red Rocks. The town also supplied ranches along Bear Creek and communities in the foothills. Morrison incorporated in 1906. As roads made travel by car and truck easier, rail traffic declined, and scheduled train service ended in 1925.
