Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve
Home to the tallest dunes in North America, backed by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Visitors come for hiking on the dunes, sand sledding and boarding, seasonal play in Medano Creek, dark-sky viewing, camping and access to a landscape that also includes wetlands, forests, alpine lakes and tundra. The park is open year-round, but creek flow and mountain access are highly seasonal.
