A Brief History of Northglenn
Northglenn developed rapidly from agricultural land in Adams County during the late 1950s and 1960s. Perl-Mack introduced model homes in 1959, helping establish a planned community that combined housing with shopping, schools and recreation. Residents voted to incorporate in 1964, and a district court upheld that vote in January 1969. The first municipal election followed that April. Hugh Danahy became the first mayor, and the community incorporated as North Glenn in 1969. Its early growth reflects the suburban expansion that transformed the northern Denver area after World War II.
